Working with Your Jewelry Shopping Service Clients

One of the most valuable skills for you to develop and use constantly in your successful jewelry shopping service is the art of listening.

Of course your primary objective is to sell your jewelry (and any related products or services you choose). You can't stay in business very long without making regular sales.

But you also want to close the sale in a way that satisfies your client too. So it's your job to understand the client's needs and preferences well enough to suggest just the right items for him or her to purchase.

The better your suggestions match with your customers' wants, needs, and tastes, the more your jewelry shopping service will grow and prosper.

Before you can recommend any purchases, you must make sure you and your client are both on the same page. Ask questions and listen carefully to their answers as you help your customers define their wants or needs.

Continue to summarize and build on what you're hearing the client say, until they say something like “Yes! That's it exactly!”

One thing I've found is that my customers often don't use the same words I do when referring to various jewelry features or styles. Sometimes we have what I call a "jewelry vocabulary gap".

For example, one of my clients called and asked me to bring a selection of my “twisted chain necklaces” for her to look at. Since I've never made anything remotely like a twisted chain necklace, I didn't have a clue what she wanted me to bring.

I had to question her diplomatically till I realized that what she was asking for was my wire-wrapped pendants!

Listening carefully and summarizing verbally can help you provide the exact jewelry your client is hoping for - which will help your jewelry gift and shopping service grow and prosper.
